Dance Like Somebody's Watchin'...

Those of us with two left feet and a shred of self-consciousness buy into the adage of the song to dance like nobody's watching.

And then there are those who aren't all that interesting in dancing until they discover there is someone watching.

For 6 of 8, having best buddies Miss LP and AT in the audience proved to be her performance muse.

And it helps to have her biggest fan in the crowd as well.

Our older kids who have danced have all loved recital season and enjoyed performing on the big stage.

But it wasn't the driving force behind the discipline.

Not so with my younger dancers.

For 5 and 6 of 8, it's all about the stage.

Does that make their dance experience somehow less pure, given that they sometimes whine through their classes, only to sing a different tune when the spotlight shines on their steps?

I think not.

Because when your make up is a good part comedic ham, front and center stage can be a powerful motivator.

Especially when you can dance like everyone's watching.
