...to post this gem from today... I'm desperately trying to get us back on some kind of schedule as we hit the books and start dance and extracurricular activities again. And to that end, I really, really, really need the twins to take a little rest time each afternoon. I'm trying to be all Cool Mom about it...they don't have to sleep, they can look at books, they can play quietly on their mats. But I really, really, really need them to take some chill time. To that end, I've been working with them, trying to get this concept of rest time to find adoption in their daily routine. Or at least a modicum of compliance. Today, I put them in my bedroom, made up little palettes for them on the floor on each side of my bed ("Look! Camping!), and sat as security guard on my bed. 7 of 8 told me that she had put on her listening ears and proceeded to happily look at books and play and sing to herself. 8 of 8 lasted about 10 minutes. And then the whining and jumping and negotiating began. At one point, he popped up, as if I wouldn't notice, and confidently started to walk around the bed toward his sister. "Nu-uh!", I said. "Get back on your side." "But Mom," he whined. "7 of 8 loves me!" At this point, his twin chimed in... "Yes, 8 of 8, I do. But I need my time." She gets this whole rest time thing. She really does.
